The General Direction of Migration demands the tourists to have one of the following documents (both need to be accompanied by the passport):
Tourist Visa extended by an embassy of El Salvador that has to be effective during the time of validity of their passport, less than a year. The visas are free for the American citizens; for some other nationalities, a quota exists.
Card of tourism for visitors that require visa consular that is available for $10 and it can be bought in the entrance point to the country. It usually extends for 90 days.
The eligible countries for this modality are: Canada, Mexico, Belize, Taiwan, Singapore, Croatia, Salomon Island, Latvia, Madagascar, Rumania, Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, South Korea, Marshall Islands, Kuwait, Macedonia, and Santa Lucia Vanatu.
The requirements will vary depending on the visitor's nationality.
